Dogman, the CC and CD ratings for diesel motor oils are old, and now obsolete, ratings. Kubota is behind in updating their manuals. I doubt that you can find an oil with those ratings anymore. I think the latest rating is CH-4 and you can buy Chevron's Delo 400 or Shell's Rotella at Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc. The synthetics are gaining in popularity, but I still use the Delo 400 15W-40 myself. ....

I've used all of those oils and think that they are fine. I just think that the Rotella is better. I buy it at the truck stop where they sell it in gallon containers rather than quarts. ....

Oops, I didn't see your entire question. You don't have to wonder if the oil is equivalent. It is printed right on every single container of oil. Look inside of a circle at the API Service rating for that particular oil. C ratings tell how it is rated in a diesel engine and S rating tell how that can of oil is rated for gasoline engines. I understand that the rating system is cumulative. So that CH-4 also meets all of the lower standards like CG-4, CF-4....and on down the line to include the old CC and CD ratings. ....

Like Roger said, the "C" means it's for diesel (compression ignition) and the "S" means it's for gasoline (spark ignition). The higher up the alphabet the second letter is, the more recent rating, and they are cumulative, i.e., "CH" includes all the "C" rated oils with letters before "H." ....
